On Saturday May 6, 2017, Alfred – A Cooperative Institute for Arts and Culture will open a solo exhibition titled ‘Wavelength’, which will feature the works of Lior Schur, curated by Peleg Dishon.
The exhibition will feature a site-specific installation which seeks to relate to the dimension of height of the space as a dimension of depth.
The starting point for the installation is a both wonderful and frightening childhood memory. The revelation of the world beneath the sea through the eyes of a child hovering over it, equipped with a snorkel and scuba goggles.
The right-most wall in the gallery space is painted in shades of blue that produce a gradient effect: a gradual transition from light blue to deep blue. In front of it is a smaller wall, similarly painted, and seems to almost assimilate into the background behind it. The proximity between the two walls produces a sort of optical resonance: shifting and multiplication.
Meter high pipes with a 20 cm diameter erect from the gallery's floor. On top of the pipes transparent plates are placed which resemble petri dishes. Inside the lighted pipes are paper-made marine creatures from the depths. The light flows from the bottom of the pipe creating a gentle levitation effect.
In the small room of the gallery, walls were built that create a kind of depth perspective. At the end of the triangular space formed between the dark walls, the dark ceiling and the floor, a bright light shines.
The materials in the exhibition emerge from light: it emerges from the cracks, gently blinks, creating levitation or buoyancy, illuminates the properties of each layer separately and the relationship between the different layers. Light defines the relationship between images and materials in space, and charges the encounter between them with meaning.
Reflected light reveals color, the breaking of light exposes matter and space, blocking the light casts the shadow which tells us something about the relationship between the starting point and the end.
Water and the sky are at opposite poles - they are what is above and below, what is presumed and what is experienced. The light, which connects the poles, allows this leap.
Lior Schur is a multidisciplinary artist who practices sculpture, installation, painting and collage. She holds a BA in Art and Education (Beit Berl College of Art, 2008) and an MA in Art Therapy (Leslie University, Israel, 2013).
Schur's works are a collage of classic art materials and ready-made, inexpensive, familiar and accessible materials. In many cases she draws inspiration from the material itself and the encounter between materials from different worlds. The connection of these materials and worlds requires playfulness and creative capabilities that underlie the works.
Schur is the founder of MTT (Space Therapy and Culture) - the first unit of its kind for art therapy at the Ashdod Museum of Art. The unit combines the three fields in which it deals: art, therapy and education.
מרצפת החלל מזדקרים צינורות בגובה מטר ובקוטר 20 ס"מ. בראש הצינורות מצויות צלחות שקופות, המאזכרות בצורתן צלחות פטרי. בתוך הצינורות המוארים נמצאים יצורי מעמקים ימיים עשויים נייר. האור זולג גם מתחתית הצינור כך שנוצר אפקט ריחוף עדין.
בחדר הקטן הוקמו קירות שיוצרים מעין פרספקטיבת עומק, אך אינם מאפשרים כניסה לחלל. בקצה החלל המשולש שנוצר בין הקירות הכהים, התקרה הכהה והרצפה, בוקע אור בהיר.
החומרים בתערוכה מתהווים מתוך האור: הוא בוקע מהחריצים, מהבהב בעדינות, יוצר ריחוף או ציפה, מאיר את תכונותיה של כל שכבה בנפרד ואת היחסים בין השכבות השונות. האור מגדיר את היחסים בין הדימויים והחומרים בחלל, וטוען את המפגש ביניהם במשמעות.
החזרת האור מגלה צבע, שבירת האור חושפת חומר ומרחב, חסימת האור מטילה צל המספר משהו על היחס בין נקודת ההתחלה לבין הסוף.
המים והשמים מצויים בקטבים מנוגדים - הם מה שמעל ומה שמתחת, מה שנחשב ומה שנחווה. האור, המחבר בין הקטבים, מאפשר את קפיצת הדרך הזו.
[1] אורך גל בפיזיקה הוא המרחק בין שני שיאים סמוכים של גל. האורכים של גלי האור השונים מתפרשים על ידי המוח האנושי כצבעים.
ליאור שור היא אמנית רב תחומית העוסקת בפיסול, מיצב, ציור וקולאז', בוגרת תואר ראשון באמנות וחינוך (המדרשה לאמנות בית-ברל, 2008) ותואר שני בטיפול באמנות (אוניברסיטת לסלי - ישראל, 2013).
עבודותיה של שור הן קולאז' של חומרי אמנות קלאסיים וחומרים מן המוכן, זולים, מוכרים ונגישים. במקרים רבים היא שואבת השראה מהחומר עצמו ומן המפגש בין חומרים מעולמות שונים. חיבורם של חומרים ועולמות אלו מצריך יכולות משחק והמצאה העומדות בבסיס העבודות.
שור היא המייסדת של מ.ת.ת (מרחב תרפיה ותרבות) – היחידה הראשונה מסוגה לטיפול באמנות במוזיאון אשדוד לאמנות. היחידה מחברת בין שלושת התחומים בהם היא עוסקת: אמנות, טיפול וחינוך.
